WHY IT LASTS

What the Hell Is PVD Jewelry and Why Does It Last?

PVD uses advanced vacuum technology to bond real 18K gold to a strong stainless steel base. The result? Jewelry that’s made for real life.

Built to stay with you.

What the Hell Is PVD Jewelry and Why Does It Last?

FOUR SIMPLE STEPS. A STRONGER PIECE.

How It Works.

Prep It

We clean and prepare the stainless steel for the perfect bond.

Vacuum It

The piece goes into a vacuum chamber, removing air and impurities.

Bond It

Gold is vaporized and fused to the surface at a molecular level.

Wear It

You get a piece that’s incredibly durable, beautiful, and made for real life.

What’s Under the Gold?

PVD isn’t a surface coat that sits on top—it’s a molecular bond that becomes part of the metal. That means incredible durability, resistance to wear, and a finish that lasts.

Frequently
Asked Questions

REAL QUESTIONS. STRAIGHT ANSWERS. NO BULLSHIT.

Is PVD jewelry waterproof?

Yes—this is jewelry made to get wet. Shower in it. Sweat in it. Wash your hands. Live your life.

PVD creates a thin, tightly adhered coating over our 316L stainless steel base, and both are chosen because they handle moisture and everyday wear far better than traditional fashion-jewelry plating. PVD coatings are specifically used in industry to improve wear and corrosion performance. Ionbond IHI Group

You bought jewelry. You shouldn’t have to panic every time it sees water.

Does PVD jewelry tarnish?

Not like the cheap plated stuff you’re probably thinking of.

316L stainless steel is highly corrosion resistant, and the PVD finish gives it another durable surface layer. That’s a big part of why I chose this combination in the first place. MDPI

Is it indestructible? No. I’m not going to bullshit you. Rings and bracelets take more friction than earrings and necklaces, and any surface can eventually show wear.

But this is jewelry made to be worn—not hidden in a box because you’re scared of wrecking it.

Is 316L stainless steel good for sensitive skin?

For a lot of people, yes—and there’s actually some science behind that.

316L stainless steel does contain nickel, so I’m not going to tell you it’s “nickel-free.” What matters is how much nickel actually gets released onto your skin.

Studies of 316L have measured very low nickel release, and European rules specifically regulate nickel release from jewelry worn against the skin. PubMed Central (PMC)

That’s why 316L is such a popular choice for skin-contact jewelry.

Sensitive as hell? No material can promise every single person will react the same way—but 316L is a damn good place to start.

How long does PVD jewelry last?

Here’s the answer nobody likes giving: there isn’t one magic number.

How long a finish looks great depends on the coating itself, surface preparation, thickness, the piece you’re wearing and how much friction it gets. Proper cleaning and preparation are a major part of how well a PVD coating bonds and performs. Ionbond IHI Group

An earring doesn’t take the same beating as a ring you wear every day. That’s just real life.

What I can tell you is this: I’ve spent 30 years around jewelry, and I chose PVD because it’s some of the best damn value I’ve found for jewelry women actually want to wear.

And because I’m willing to put my name behind it, Midnight Valley backs the colour with our Lifetime Colour Confidence.
